On 10 November, Indonesia celebrates Hari Pahlawan or
heroes Day in remembrance of the Battle of Surabaya which started on that very
date in the year 1945.
The bloody battle took place because Indonesians refused to surrender their weaponry to British army. The defiant Bung Tomo is the well-known revolutionary leader who played a very important role in this battle. It all started because of a misunderstanding between British troops in Jakarta and those in Surabaya, under the command of Brigadier A.W.WS. Mallaby. Brigadier Mallaby already had an agreement with Governor of East Java Mr. Surya. The agreement stated that British would not ask Indonesian troops and militia to surrender their weapons. However, a British plane from Jakarta dropped leaflets all over Surabaya. The leaflet told Indonesians to do otherwise on 27 October 1945. This action angered the Indonesian troops and militia leaders because they felt betrayed.
On 30 October 1945, Brigadier Mallaby was killed as he was approaching the British troops’ post near Jembatan Merah or Red Bridge, Surabaya. Looking at this situation, Lieutenant General Sir Philip Christison brought in reinforcements to siege the city. In the early morning of 10 November 1945, British troops began to advance into Surabaya with cover from both naval and air bombardment. Although the Indonesians defended the city heroically, the city was conquered within 3 days and the whole battle lasted for 3 weeks. In total, between 6,000 and 16,000. Indonesians died while casualties on the British side were about 600 to 2000.
Battle of Surabaya caused Indonesia to lose weaponry
which hampered the country’s independence struggle. However, the battle
provoked Indonesian and international mass to rally for the country’s independence
which made this battle especially important for Indonesian national revolution.

Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in north Sumatra. He lived in a simple hut in a farming field. He did some gardening and fishing for his daily life.
One day, while the man was do fishing, he caught a big golden fish in
his trap. It was the biggest catch which he ever had in his life. Surprisingly,
this fish turned into a beautiful princess. He felt in love with her and
proposed her to be his wife. She said; "Yes, but you have to promise not
to tell anyone about the secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there will be
a huge disaster". The man made the deal and they got married, lived
happily and had a daughter.
Few years later, his daughter would help bringing lunch to her father
out in the fields. One day, his daughter was so hungry and she ate his father’s
lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and shouted; “You damned
daughter of a fish”. The daughter ran home and asked her mother. The mother
started crying, felt sad that her husband had broken his promise.
Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster
was about to come. When her daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big
earthquake followed by non-stop pouring rain. The whole area got flooded and
became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the man became the island of
Samosir.

The use of formalin and other dangerous preservatives in food has been serious problem for three reasons.
Firstly, formalin is not for human beings, but it is
for biological specimens and experiments. It is usually used as a disinfectant or to preserve
biological specimens. Thus, it is not for food preservatives.
The second reason is that there is no tight control
from the government. This condition makes the people’s health is really in a
threat. The citizen's bodies will be
badly contaminated with the poisons.
Next,
fish or food traders still sell
their products which contain formalin and dangerous preservatives. Can you
imagine that our digestive system absorbs the substance that should be for the
human and animal corpses?
Considering the reasons, we can make a conclusion that the use of formalin and other preservatives is really a serious problem if it is not resolved immediately.

How water
cycle works
The water cycle is the never ending movement of the earth’s water. Water goes from the ocean to the air, to the land and back to the oceans again. For that reason, its movement is called a cycle.
This cycle begins when heat energy from the sun causes water in puddles, streams, rivers, seas or lakes to change from a liquid to a water vapor. Water vapor is water that has become a gas. This process is called as evaporation. The water vapor rises high into the sky and collects in clouds because of the wind blow. As the clouds cool the water vapor, they condense into water drops. This is known as condensation. The cooled water vapor changes into tiny drops of water. The drops are held up in the sky by rising warm air. The water in the clouds eventually falls to earth as rain or hail. This is called as precipitation. If the water vapor is cold enough, it turns into ice and falls as snow. Most rain and snow falls into the ocean, but some falls on land. When the rain falls into the earth, the water can directly flows to the ocean in which the rainfall does not soak into the soil and that is called runoff. When the rainfall soak into the soil, it is called underground water. In time, this water also flows back to the ocean and the cycle starts again. Rain falls to the forest/trees experiences transpiration in which they lose water out from their leaves and evaporation takes place.
12. SONG
Viva Forever
Song by:
Spice Girls
Do you still
remember
How we used
to be
Felling
together, believe in whatever
My love has
said to me
Both of us were
dreamers
Young love
in the sun
Felt like my
savior, my spirit I gave ya
We’d only
just begun
Hasta
Manana,
Always be
mine
[Chorus:]
Viva
forever, I’ll be waiting
Everlasting,
like the sun
Live
forever,
For the
moment
Ever
searching for the one
Yes I still
remember,
Every
whispered word
The touch of
your skin, giving life from within
Like a love
song that I’d heard
Slipping
through out fingers,
Like the
sands of time
Promise
made, every memory saved
Has
reflections in my mind
Hasta
Manana,
Always be
mine
[Chorus]
Back where I
belong now,
Was it just
a dream
Feelings
unfold, they will never be sold
And the
secret’s safe with me
